Marcus Garvey Playground (2)

124th st, between Madison and 5th Avenue

The playground on the Northeast corner of Marcus Garvey park is the "big kid" park.  The playground looks like it hasn't been painted in years, but that doesn't stop the kids from having a blast on the monkey bars or running across the bridge.  The girls and I like to come to this park if we are early for swim lessons at Wagner Pool.  The biggest problem with this playground is the sketchy people hanging around on the outside benches.  Although they have never bothered us, I have people drinking from brown paper bags at 10 in the morning and get into heated yelling matches.  Because Marcus Garvey is frequently patrolled by the police, the girls and I feel safe.

Highlights
• Near the Pool

Lowlights
Sketchy people outside the park • Old and chipped playground

What It's Got
Swings • 2 Slides • 2 Jungle Gyms • Monkey Bars • Water Fountain (working) • Hard-rubber Ground • Bridge • Pull-up Bar • Trashcans

What Parents/Nannies Need to Know
3/4 Shaded (not the swings) • Seats along one side • No blindspots  • A lot of sketchy people on the benches around the park • The pool has public restrooms • 1 Entrance

What's Nearby
